The first person infected in our family was my dad. He started to feel unwell and develop a fever on December 20. We immediately realized that something serious might be happening and that he had contracted COVID-19. Later on the 22nd, I bought some antigen tests from a scalper, tested my father, and it indeed showed positive—two lines. My mom and I both started fevers on the evening of the 22nd, and this has been a three-day stretch of torment.
This is the first time our family has been infected with the virus; we had no preparation, and we didn't know what would happen. After some brainwashing propaganda: 90% of people are asymptomatic; don't worry, it's just a big flu. We believed it at the time, and as a result the whole family suffered in indescribable pain.
To illustrate with my own experience: by 8 PM on the 22nd, my fever rose to 38.3°C; in the early hours it climbed above 40°C; on the 23rd during the day it remained above 39°C. Since the 23rd until now, fever has occurred every day, sometimes intermittent.
Pain is another matter. On the first day of onset, the lower back felt as if it had been broken, and I couldn't stay in one position in bed for more than 5–10 minutes. I kept a pillow under my waist, hoping to ease the pain, but it didn’t help; I slept only about 2 hours all night. Fever, back pain, and swollen, painful eyes made me feel like I really couldn't get through that night.
I vaguely remember that, because we needed to eat, my mom endured the pain and got up early to cook congee; tears in her eyes, she brought it to the table, and the three of us ate while tears streamed down our faces.........
So far, my dad and I have recovered, but my mom is still being tormented. Now I really don't believe some experts' words; indeed, some things should be heard in the opposite way: when they say there's no problem, there is a problem. After all, to prevent panic with real data, they have to spout some nonsense to soothe public sentiment.
(Be sure to stay vigilant, especially for people with underlying conditions. In our group, some classmates' parents with diabetes contracted COVID-19 and were rushed to ICU for emergency care; another person with heart problems was hospitalized. Among my infected friends now, 90% have symptoms; the experts' words are really a joke.)
My diary site uses mx-space; recently the platform's senior developer added a new feature: the vent page now has comments. Previously only I could post updates there; now it has become interactive~
Originally, it was just a page for my venting, where only I could post updates and opinions. Now it has transformed into a Moments-like space where interaction is possible; I am truly grateful.
